Introducing the EU Legal Order - 9 week course

Date       01-01-2010 to 31-03-2010

Course – “Introducing the EU Legal Order”

The Chamber of Advocates is organising a 9 week course entitled Introducing the EU Legal Order.

Scope

The aim of this course is two-fold.  First of all, it is intended to help lawyers who have never had the opportunity to study EU law or who need to revise and update their knowledge on EU law.  Secondly it is intended to help the practitioner research EU law better.    The course covers only the institutional and administrative part of the EU legal order and as a result it is of interest to all practicing lawyers irrespective of their field of practice or specialisation.  The course is compact and requires the audience to do further reading on their own about the matter as directed during the course.

The course is divided into 9 sessions of 2 hrs each.

Session 1:       Introduction to the EU legal order

Session 2:       The Institutions, Instruments and Competence.

Session 3:       Legislation and Policy-Making

Session 4:       The nature and effect of EC law: Direct Effect and beyond

Session 5:       Preliminary reference

Session 6b):    Enforcement actions
