The Malta Law Academy, a Chamber of Advocates Foundation, held its Annual Company Law Conference 2023 on 22 November 2023, at the Aula Magna Hall, University of Malta’s Valletta Campus. The conference was entitled “Maltese Company Law – New Perspectives, New Laws, New Challenges”.
The President of the Chamber of Advocates, Dr Peter Fenech, delivered the opening address, followed by an introductory address by Hon. Mr Justice Ian Spiteri Bailey. A stellar array of speakers proceeded to discuss various aspects of company law to a packed hall. Some interesting presentations detailed the evolving governance role of the Board Secretary, the role of the Official Receiver and the new insolvency framework, as well as AI and corporate governance, among others.
The speaker line-up this year included Dr David Fabri as the conference organiser and representative of the Malta Law Academy, Dr Stephen Attard, Head of Corporate Finance and Tax Departments at Ganado Advocates, Dr Graziella Bray, Company Secretary of APS Bank plc., Dr Ingrid Hamilton, Official Receiver and Head of Insolvency and Receivership Services at Malta Business Registry, Dr Antoine Naudi, Partner at Naudi Mizzi and Associates, Dr Alessia Carbone, First Secretary at the Ministry of Foreign Affairs and Dr Patrick Buhagiar, Head of Legal and Compliance at Multitude Bank.
